KNECHTEL, A.C. - forestry specialist
Visited the Bell Farm in 1891 - A.C. Knechtel (1859-1915) was a Canadian who moved to the USA and became Superintendent of Schools in Michigan.
Later he attended Cornell University in New York and acquired a forestry degree. He initially worked for the US Forest Service; then, from 1902 to 1908 worked for the Forest, Fish and Game Commission in Albany New York.
Knechtel then returned to Canada and joined the Dominion Forestry Branch, where he became Inspector of Forest Reserves. In 1913 he joined the Forestry Branch as a Forester. Abraham Knechtel remarked at a 1903 Canadian Forestry Association annual meeting that he had visited Major Bell in Regina and the Dominion Experimental Farm at Indian Head before shelterbelt planting was undertaken. That visit likely occurred in July 1891, when he toured the Indian Head-Regina region.
