Register entry 242 - James Carruthers
Visited the Bell Farm on 27 August 1887 along with his business associated Hugh N. Baird. - Known as the "Wheat King of Canada", James Carruthers began his career in the grain export firm owned by H.N. Baird. Both Carruthers and Baird, then of Toronto, signed the Visitors Register on August 27th 1887.
In two "Manitoba Free Press" articles on Aug. 24 and 30, 1887, mention is made of the trip that Baird and Carruthers were taking to inspect the Manitoba harvest, visiting Carberry, Minnedosa, Brandon and Rapid City - and extending their foray as far as Indian Head to check out the famous Bell Farm.
