Register entry 136 - Archibald MacDonald

Visited the Bell Farm on September 22, 1884 - Archibald MacDonald (1836-1915) was the Hudson's Bay Chief Factor for Fort Qu'Appelle, and is often referred to as the last “Chief Factor” in the Hudson Bay"s Company system. By the time he died, that terminology had long before gone out of fashion. But he retained his title with pride, as can be seem in this photo. Archie is also credited with having designed the HBC Store at Fort Qu'Appelle, which was erected in 1897. That was the first large department store for the HBC after they decided to get out of trading posts and get into the storefront business.
