EWART, James and Jane - Bell Farm employee
Jim and Jane both worked on the Bell Farm from 1884 to 1887, when they married and moved onto their own homestead farm near Sintaluta.
James (1859-1920) was born in Scotland, and, after moving to the Indian Head region, was a farmer and local politician in the Sintaluta area. He worked on the Bell Farm during the winter months from 1884 until 1887.
He married Jane Bingham in England in 1887. Jim died in 1920 at age 61; she in 1922 at age 68.
Jim Ewart left Scotland in 1881 and came to Ontario, Canada. In 1883 he moved into the Canadian West, settling near Sintaluta, on farm land SE of the Bell Farm. From 1884 until 1887, he farmed his own land in the summer, and during the winter months worked at the Bell Farm.
Meanwhile, Jane Lovina Bingham came from England to Indian Head, where she kept house for her brother George, who worked on the Bell Farm. It was here that Jim and Jane began their courting.
Ewart became involved in local politics, and served as president of the Red Fox Rural Valley Telephone Company, which provided telephone services to the Sintaluta region.
