MIDDLETON, Mrs. Eugenie - wife of General Middleton
Visited the Bell Farm in late July, 1885 in company with her husband, Major- General Frederick Dobson Middleton, commander of the federal government's military forces during the North-West Conflict of 1885.
Marie Cecile Eugénie Doucet (1846-1899) married Fred Middleton in 1870. In 1885, after the military conflict was over, she came out West and accompanied her husband on a trip to Calgary, stopping off at Cluny, Alberta to meet with Chief Crowfoot and Edgar Dewdney, Lieutenant Governor of the North-West Territories. They travelled on the General's private car provided by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company.
En route back East, they stopped off at Regina, where Dewdney lived, and then left for Winnipeg on July 31st. It is likely that they stopped off at the Bell Farm later that morning or afternoon. They left Winnipeg for Ottawa on Aug. 4, 1885. Neither Fred nor Eugenie Middleton signed the Bell Farm Visitors Register.
