Register entry 229 - Joel Cook
Visited the Bell Farm on Sept. 5, 1886 - Joel Cook (1842-1910) was a Philadelphia based special correspondent for the London Times, financial editor of the Philadelphia Public Ledger, author and later a US Congressman. Cook was a member of the Union League of Philadelphia, and wrote about Louis Riel in his book "America,picturesque and descriptive". He was married to Mary J. Edmunds, and they had at least two children.
Cook visited the Bell Farm on Sept. 5, 1886, accompanied by his 16 year-old son George W.C. Cook, also of Philadelphia. Joel Cook wrote a fairly lengthy description of the Bell Farm, including some facts not mentioned in other articles, such as the exemption of four sections of School Lands (at 640 acres per section) from the Bell Farm.
