  • The death of Mr Hamilton of Sundrum is greatly regretted in Ayrshire,as he was one of the most popular lairds in the country and took a very active part in all local affairs. He succeeded to the large estates of Carrieston and Sundrum about 10 years ago on the death of his father, Colonel Hamilton, and he had previously traveled around the world and had farmed on a large scale for some years in the United States. He was a practical agriculturist and was a just and very considerate landlord,as he thoroughly apprehended the difficulties of his tenants. Mr Hamilton, who was a keen sportsman, was one of the most zealous and influential leaders of the Conservative party in Ayrshire.
