Qu’Appelle Valley Farming Company - first Annual General Meeting
This copy of the first annual report for the Qu’Appelle Valley Farming Company is the only example of such a document located to date. It is presumed that such reports were printed in subsequent years, but none has yet been found.
This first meeting was held in the company’s head office, located at #2 Bannatyne East, Winnipeg, as recorded in the 1884 edition of Henderson’s Winnipeg Directory:
“Bell, W.R. mgr, Qu’Appelle Valley Farming Company, 2 Bannadyne East” and
“Qu’Appelle Valley Farming Company (limited),WR. Bell, manager, office, 2 Bannadyne East”.
George W. Stewart, the architect who designed the Bell Farm Elevator in 1884, had his office across the street from the Qu’Appelle Valley Farming Company, at #2 Bannadyne West.
As usual, Major Bell stayed at the nearby Grand Union Hotel. Between 1882 and 1887, when visiting Winnipeg, Major and Katherine Bell regularly lived at this hotel, located at 100 Princess Street, about three blocks west of the Company’s office.
