Dewdney, Edgar
Bell Farm Investor
Edgar Dewdney, while serving as Lieutenant Governor of the North-West Territories, bought shares in the Qu'Appelle Valley Farming Company (also known as the Bell Farm), and served as both a Director of the Company and as its President in 1884. However, he did not realize immediate profits and left the Company within a year or two, apparently quite disillusioned by Major Bell's venture. The North-West Rebellion of 1885 might also have had an affect on his decision to withdraw, especially as the Rebellion Losses / Claims Commission investigated Major Bell's financial dealings while he served as the Transport Officer at Qu'Appelle.
