WOODS, John G. - Bell Farm accountant
Worked on the Bell Farm from 1882-1884 - John G. Woods (1856-19__) was born in Chatham, Ontario - the same community where a number of Bell Farm investors originated. After moving to Winnipeg in 1882 he obtained work with the Bell Farm as its accountant and superintendent. He left that position in 1884 in order to work on construction of the new Canadian Pacific Railroad as it ventured to completion in British Columbia. In 1885, Woods returned to the prairies and again worked for Major Bell, then Transport Office in charge of moving men and goods north from Qu'Appelle to Batoche during the North-West Conflict of 1885. After hostilities ceased Woods returned to British Columbia, working in Vancouver for Leamy and Kyle in the lumber business. Afterwards he went into business for himself as a shingles manufacturer. In 1912 he closed that operation at False Creek, and opened a wharfage and storage business called J. G. Woods & Company. Woods was a member of various clubs, and active in community affairs in Vancouver.
