OSLER, Andrew - "Dundee Courier" correspondent

Visited the Bell Farm on August 10, 1893.

Andrew Osler [1841-____) was one of 12 men commissioned by the "Dundee Courier" to attend the World's Fair at Chicago in 1893. He and James Taylor then went on to travel throughout Canada and parts of the USA to report on agricultural development in those countries. The tour was formally called the "Artisan Expedition" by the "Dundee Courier", and the men travelled from Dundee, Scotland to Montreal, Quebec aboard the Thomas Line steamship "IONA". Then they travelled by the Canadian Pacific and American trains direct to Toronto and Chicago.

Osler and Taylor then took the train to Winnipeg, and then on to Vancouver. Their return trip east was taken at a more leisurely pace.

Andrew Osler's journey commenced on June 24, 1893 and concluded in late August. During that time and for the following year, he submitted weekly reports to the "Dundee Courier", based on his notes. His journey also included a side trip to Edmonton.
