TRAILL, William A. - British Association Member - 1884
Among the 1884 British Association Visitors was Irish engineer William Atcheson Traill (1844-1933) - "the inventor of the electric tramway". Traill worked with the Geological Survey of Ireland from 1868-1881. In 1883 he built the first electric railway which ran from Portrush to the Giant's Causeway.
In 1990 the Northern Bank of Ireland issued a £5 banknote commemorating Traill's engineering achievements.
