Register entry 045 - F.M. Burton
Visited the Bell Farm on Aug. 15, 1884 with the British Association -
Frederick Merryweather Burton, a lawyer and "all round naturalist" visited the Farm on Aug 15, 1884 as a member of the British Association. While at the Farm Mr Burton and Professor Viriamu Jones were thrown from the their carriage, resulting in Burton being seriously injured. Initially treated at Indian Head by Dr. Edwards, Burton was then transported to a Winnipeg hospital, and later to a Montreal hospital to recover. It is unclear if he was able to attend any of the British Association meetings while he was recuperating in Montreal, but the text from one of his visitors while in hospital suggests that this was most unlikely.
